Description:

Symbol of Fertility, this beautiful Akuaba doll from the Ashanti tribe in Ghana is a perfect addition to any art collection.

Traditionally carried by women hoping for offspring, this Akuaba doll has a large, round, flat head reminiscent of its origin as a representation of the moon goddess associated with fertility. Once the figure has fulfilled its purpose, it is placed on a domestic altar where it is worshipped or passed down to the next generation.

This particular Akuaba doll is made from light-colored, lightweight wood and has been carved in the traditional form. Its large, round head features splayed eyebrows, small coffee bean eyes, and characteristic carvings visible on the reverse. The notched rings on the neck add to its unique charm and cultural significance.
